Active transport is the movement of molecules from a region of their lower concentration to a region of their higher concentration

Active transport is the movement of molecules across a cell membrane from a region of their lower concentration to a region of their higher concentration—in the way opposite to some gradient or other obstructing factors (often an intensity gradient).

While active transport, particles travel against the concentration gradient - and hence need an input of energy from the cell.
