Compare and contrast the structure and function of lysosome and golgi

Lysosomes are membrane-bound spherical vesicles which contain hydrolytic enzymes that can break down virtually all kinds of biomolecules. At the same time, Golgi bodies or Golgi apparatus is part of the cellular endomembrane system,which packages proteins into membrane-bound vesicles inside the cell before the vesicles are sent to their destination. Lysosomes are isolated round or oval vesicular bodies while the Golgi bodies exist in a specific stack-like manner comprising of cisternae, tubules and vesicles.

While the Golgi apparatus is believed to originate from the endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes are one of the vesicular packages of the Golgi cisternae. Golgi complex produces lysosomes as well as other secretory granules. Newly synthesized proteins, lipids, carbohydrates in association with the ER, are transported to the bioregion of the complex. They are sorted out and suitably modified in this complex; they are then packed in vesicles at trans region. Some of the granules contain hydrolytic enzymes and form lysosomes, while others are secreted for respective functions.
