There are 2 main functions of catalysts: (1) By bringing together reacts particles, catalysts places stress on the bonds of these particles. This makes it easier for the bonds between reactant particles to be Brocken and therefore les energy is required for the reaction to begin. (2) This in turn increases the rate of reaction because the reaction energy is released.
