With the growth of the population, the amount of waste produced rises. These two factors are correlated because despite the average amount of waste per day being produced per day stays the same, there are more people to create this waste, thus causing more waste per year. For example, if you had 4 friends and 20 candies between you, then the total candies is 20, and the average person gets 5 pieces. If you had 5 friends and 25 candies the next day, then the total amount of candies you have increases, but the average amount each person gets stays the same (5).
