Stem cells can become any type of cell in the human body, making them ideal for many types of therapies. One area of possible use is in brain cell transplants that could help people with spinal cord injuries and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease. Even though there is great potential for helping people, what is one ethical issue that could arise from the use of stem cells?

The only scientific and ethical via to generate a treatment is through an approved clinical essay.  Clinical investigation in the stem cell transplant involves an important and long study of the risks and benefits relationship before the treatment begins. However, the transplant is an invasive method directed to the brain that might result in very serious neurological damage, which can not be predicted by the preclinical analysis. Some of the patients treated have shown positive effects, but some others have poorly responded to the treatment. Also, some long-term studies suggest that these transplants might still result in the evolution of the disease together with secondary effects. Also, the transplant might originate cancerous cells, tumors, inadequate cell migration, immune rejection, bleeding during  surgery, and post-surgical infection. Using stem cells for clinical use requires first an ensure that the treatment will result in a long-term improvement of motor function along with a  relief of drug resistance symptoms in animals.

But the bigger problem relies on the origin of these cells. They must be obtained from embryo destruction before it reaches the uterus. This is very controversial and many people are against it due to the fact that it might involve abortion. The murder of a future person.
