1) Aphids are small insects that feed off of the sugars produced by plants. They get nutrients and sugars from the fluid, but much of it passes through their system without being digested. This excess food gets excreted as a sugary substance. Certain ants have taken advantage of this, by carrying the aphids to new plants where they come in contact with new sources of food.
