PROBLEM: Fred Hopper, a 59-year-old insurance salesman, was admitted to the rehabilitation unit for treatment. Two weeks earlier, while sitting in a bar drinking beer, he suddenly fell off the stool and discovered some left sided paralysis. Fred was brought to the ER by his girlfriend. His symptoms progressed to frank hemiparesis without any associated headache or loss of consciousness. Some mild nausea and vomiting were noted, however. He was diagnosed as having a cerebrovascular accident.
