However, water, being a special molecule, expands when it freezes, rather than contracts, meaning that the ice on top of the lake is less dense than the water underneath it.

2 Sugar will readily dissolve in water but doesn't form cations and anions in solution. That is, there are no charge carriers formed. Substances that only partially ionize into ions when dissolved in water are called weak electrolytes.

3 It is made of millions of smaller molecules that create a flexible and porous container. Proteins and phospholipids make up most of the membrane structure. The phospholipids make the basic bag. The proteins are found around the holes and help move molecules in and out of the cell.
