these muscles maintain the blood pressure in the vessels. the smooth muscles are innervated by nerves of the autonomic nervous system. when the muscles contract, they cause vasoconstriction of the vessels and increase blood pressure. when the muscles relax, they enable vasodilation of the   blood vessels hence reduce blood pressure.  

to figure the total magnification of an image that you are viewing through the microscope is really quite simple. to get the total magnification take the power of the objective (4x, 10x, 40x) and multiply by the power of the eyepiece, (usually 10x)
