In a single molecule FRET experiment, a 250 nucleotide biotinylated RNA is immobilized on a streptavidin coated surface, in the presence of 1 mM Mg2 . The RNA contains a Cy3 fluorescent label on nucleotide 57, and a Cy5 fluorescent label on nucleotide 225. When 20 mM Mg2 is added to the RNA, the Cy3-Cy5 FRET signal doubles. Briefly describe a change in the RNA structure that could have caused the increase in FRET signal. (3 pts)
