Frozen water has less density than liquid water. how does this property of water affect life on earth?

As most liquids contract when they are cooled to ice forms that we have seen in glaciers the ice caps and polar landmasses have life frozen in freshwaters. Ice can carry along with it various types of gases and rare earth that can be remained preserved inside the earth for years. Even earth core consists of liquid water which is itself a sign that life on earth is a result of the changing forms of water sphere on earth.
