Part 3: Activity (Plants get sick too!) (20 pts)
We have learned about many types of pathogens in this module. Now it is type for you to play the role of a plant detective (plant pathologist) and solve the following cases. Use the web to help you find out what possible pathogen may be causing these problems. Google is your friend! Make sure you put your responses in your own words.:)
Helpful link: https://plantpath. ifas. ufl. edu/ You can use the search option on this site to try and narrow down your disease.
Plant pathology case #1

Case Notes

Case open (2/11/2019)

Evidence: Mrs. Macy is very dissatisfied with her tomato plants this year. If she doesn’t turn it around, it will be challenging to put food on the table. There has been a low yield of fruit and the plants are short and stunted. Some of the leaves have a mosaic pattern of dark spots on their leaves.

Conclusions:
Suspected disease:

Type of pathogen (highlight one) (virus, bacteria or fungi)

How is it spread?

Recommendations: What can be done to limit the spread?

Plant pathology case #2

Case notes

Case open (2/8/2019)

Evidence: Farmers Burns and Dexter-Kemp are at their wits end. It has been a rough year farming their crop of oranges. They have noticed an increase in insects climbing on their fruit. The veins on the leaves are yellow and there is splotchy mottling all over the leaves. Some of the leaves are falling off prematurely. After the fruit ripens, it starts to turn green.
