Sartorius refers to the longest muscle in humans. It is a thin, long, and narrow muscle found at the joint of the hip. It assists in bending of the knee joint or the hip. It assists in rotation of the thigh. The unique characteristic of this muscle is it crosses two joints, that is, knee and hip joints.  

It permits the tailor to rotate their thigh to make a cross-legged position. Sartorius comes under the category of the medial rotator of the thigh, that is, used at the time of sitting in cross leg position. In order to rotate the thigh in the opposite direction, that is, to stand up from this position the lateral rotator muscles are required like gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, piriformis, quadratus femoris, gemellus, and obturator muscles.
