The periodic table is a way to arrange elements. It organizes it in a table based on the atomic number. The atomic number is the number of the protons. In the periodic table, you won’t see the words spelled out. This is because it would make it too long so instead, you are given an atomic symbol which is a one or two letter abbreviation for the element. In a periodic table the elements are always arranged in rows and columns. Each row in a periodic table is called a period and each row is called a group. So in all, there are a total of 18 groups. With the groups combined, there are a total of 109 elements in all. I would like to mention one more thing. The periodic table is important because if we didn’t have it, the elements would be all over the place meaning that they wouldn’t be in order.
