Rosalind Franklin already knew she wanted to be a scientist at the age of 15. She believes that;

"Science, for me, gives a partial explanation for life. In so far as it goes, it is based on fact, experience and experiment."

She contributed to the Swiss physician, Friedrich Miescher, who discovered a microscopic substance in the pus of discarded surgical bandages, and she was determined that the helix was a uniform diameter and composed of 2 strands of stacked nucleotide's.

She contributed to her discovery by producing the infamous X-ray crystallographic picture of DNA.
