The information contained within the gene is copied into a new molecule by the process of transcription. Transcription is a process by which the information from one strand of DNA is copied into a new molecule called messenger RNA or mRNA. Protein molecules include DNA and RNA and the genetic information is copied into the protein molecules by the process of transcription and translation.
