Explain why mountains are formed on the continental crust during convergent movement.

When the continental and the oceanic plates collide, the oceanic plate subsides under the continental plate because it is denser.   Its higher density is because it is ‘wet’.  As the two collide, the stress and friction between the two causes the overlying continental crust to uplift and fold into mountain ranges at the boundary.
