-When the action potential reaches the knob like terminals at an axons end, or the axon bulbs, it triggers the release of chemical messengers called neurotransmitters.

-Neurotransmitters are the chemical messengers that cross the synaptic gaps between neurons. they travel across the synapse and bind to receptor sites on  the receiving neuron, thereby influencing whether the neuron will generate a neural impulse.

-After the neurotransmitters have found to the receptor sites on the receiving neuron they unlocked tiny channels into which electrically charged atoms flow, that's exciting or inhibiting the receiving neurons readiness to fire.

-Then in a process called reuptake, the sending neuron reabsorbs the excess neurotransmitters from the synaptic cleft.
