Therefore, evaporation absorbs energy form the environment. This also explains why evaporation is a cooling effect, because some liquid molecules absorbs heat and are removed therefore the remaining liquid becomes cooler. Examples are such as sweating, our skin feels cooler when we sweat.

On the other hand, condensation is where gas molecules turns back into liquid molecules. It is a phase change from gas to liquid. Molecules have to loose energy in order to form bonds to become liquid molecules. Therefore, they have to release energy to the environment. This is also why we cover the lid of the pot when cooking, because when the steam condenses on the lid, it heats up the food even faster.
