Compare and contrast the five main climate types

The five main types of climates are dry, tropical, temperate or moderate, polar, and continental climate. Climate is basically categorized on the basis of the Koppen Classification Scheme. This system categorizes different types of climates and subtypes.  

Tropical climates are featured by high temperatures during all the twelve months of the year, with an average temperature of more than 64 degrees F or 18 degrees C. Dry climates are featured by a diminished amount of precipitation all through the year, like in Sahara.

The temperate or moderate climates exhibit temperatures of more than 50 degrees F or 10 degrees C at the time of warm months, and 27 degrees F or 3 degrees C at the time of cold months. Temperate climates possess warm summers and mild winters.  

Continental is identical to temperate climates, however, the summers are cooler and the winters are colder. The polar climates exhibit extremely cold summers and extremely cold winters like in the North Pole and in Antarctica.
