Which direction do a comet's dust and plasma tails point?

Dust and particulate trails point in the direction opposite of the star closest to it. The outgoing solar energy and radiation slowly shaves off matter of the object, and thus creates a tail behind the object. Simply put, the tail is on the dark side of the object.
