Andrea Pisano’s bronze doors for the Florence Baptistery were an important fourteenth-century commission. When it was decided to commission a second set of doors for the Baptistery, a competition was held to determine the artist. Ultimately, the work of the young and unknown sculptor, Lorenzo Ghiberti, was chosen over the work of the more established Filippo Brunelleschi.
