What is the longest running show on air today? and also, what show has had the most characters in total in its entire running?

Why is this question in the Arts section? 
Okay, so when ask a question it most likely going to be for school...
But I shall answer (by googling it)

The first question says that,
The Simpsons is  one of most longest aired show in the world. But there other shows like Meet the Press,Coronation Street, etc that are also one of most longed aired shows.
It seems like there no real answer...yet. 

For the second question,
I can not find any answers. I spent about a good 15 minutes looking but there nothing! I guess no one thought to answer this question before. 
Anyway, I think some anime shows probably has some of the most characters in a show.
