A classic example where you can see lots of practical effects in Star Wars, where the aliens, spaceships, weapons, etc are all special effects, where the aliens are customers, the spaceships may be models when filmed by outside, and weapons and most other things are crafted just for the movie, and the lasers may be added in post with CGI.
