The neoimpressionist painter Georges Seurat was a member of the pointillist school of painters. His paintings consist of an enormous number of closely spaced small dots each approximately 2 mm in diameter. When viewed from a sufficiently long distance, there is the illusion of color mixing as two closely spaced colored dots are no longer able to be distinguished and instead appear as one.
