What is the differences and similarities between the musical genres of Mexico and Bali

There are many styles played in these countries.  Bali is most known for the Gamelan, an orchestra of gongs, drums and xylophones.  Mexico is famous for the Mariachi, typically travelling guitar and vocal bands, sometimes accompanied by large horn sections.

These musical traditions don't seem to have much in common to me.  Drum and voice is common to all musical styles, so I suppose there's an overlap here.  Both countries use the same basic notes, although a stripped-down 5 tone version of the scale is more common in Bali.

Flashy costumes are a key part of the musical traditions for both Gamelan and Mariachi.
