What does the bauhaus chair design tell you about contemporary ideas regarding comfort?

The Bauhaus chair, and many other articles of that nature are made to break things down to their most basic form. Not all the designs were practical or comfortable, but they had a striking look about them.

Modern art, music, film, etc. often place form over function; that is to say, they often disregard comfort and delve into the strange or disturbing.
