Lewis Wickes Hine was an American sociologist and photographer. Hine used his camera as a tool for social reform. He was a great photographer and he mainly spoke against child labor and their working conditions. Unlike some photographers making use of this technique to blur out the background, Hine repeatedly uses it in a way that also blurs the foreground. In Hine's images, he is allowing for a plane of focus sometimes no deeper than a few inches. Hine soon realized the power that photography had to reveal truth and reality, which made an ever-lasting impact on him. A photography is not just a photo that is taken by a camera in many times or often it contains many special things such as a story, values, statuses, and even social issues. A documentary photography are some what tells the truth on what is all about the issues while the Pictorial Photography are those pictures that focuses only on a characters or a persons.
