It was important because they didn’t have cameras to take pictures of things so they had to paint/draw things so that they can use it later or have some expression and to show what was going on in that time era

What i think is that it adds loudness for preachers/church choirs. it is also able to hold up a lot of weight without pillars. : )) idek tho
