Bartok was outside of the homeland throughout World War 1 because he appeared to be on holiday in France. Upon his arrival in Hungary, he was considered unqualified for the job, and he wasted most of the conflict touring throughout Europe. The moment when he actually determined to flee Hungary on a further continuing base, and due to major conflicts with the Hungarian administration, was through World War 2 when he traveled to the United States to enter the combat struggle upon the Nazis.
