I believe it means that if you haven't truly experienced the message you are trying to play, it won't come out authentic or it won't come out at all. I completely agree with this statement. We can see many examples in our society where we should educate ourselves on a subject before we try to preach it. Imagine this: If you were trying to write a novel about George Washington but knew nothing about him or his life, what kind of book would that be? A pretty bad one, if you ask me. Also, if you're not passionate about him and his work, either in a positive or negative light, your overall work won't be very enthusiastic and will probably be boring to read. In artistry, you need to express yourself and your opinions loud and proud. The best pieces of works are the ones you pour your heart and soul into. An art piece that isn't a piece of you is not a good piece.
