Use the following story to answer all the short answer questions: Doug's old car was totaled in an intersection when another car
ran a red light, hit his car on the driver side and pinned him
inside; after being removed from the car he was treated at the
hospital and released; when released from the hospital Doug
noticed that his heart was pounding and his hands were shaking
but these symptoms disappeared the next day. A while later
Doug was driving his new car and as he approached the
intersection at which the accident occurred he felt anxious and
noticed that his heart started to pound; before reaching the
intersection he made a right turn so as to avoid the intersection
and he then traveled to his intended destination using other roads
even though it took longer. For the next several weeks, Doug
always made a right turn before the intersection and took the
long way around to his destination. Then one day while
distracted, Doug missed the right turn and drove through the
intersection; he felt anxious as he went through the intersection
but got to his destination without incident. Eventually Doug
was driving through the intersection without becoming anxious
and without a pounding heart.
33. Was making a right turn to avoid the intersection an operant
response or a classical response?
34. When Doug approached the intersection driving his new car,
was his pounding heart an operant or classical response?
